Week #5 – Creative Practice

Music is the Universal Language

This week's Creative Practice was fun as it forced me to move away from my regular practice of visual art and play around with music. As I child, I sang in the church choir, the school chorus and played a clarinet in both the junior high and high school band. Then it wasn't cool to be in the band when I moved to Virginia Beach, so I dropped it altogether. I love music, particularly jazz and new age style,  and often play it while I am creating visual art.

We read in Dissanayake's "What is Art For?" that all cultures have music; and that it is perhaps our first language. I would have to agree. Ever notice that when a crying baby can not be consoled with words or rocking, that a pleasant song quiets them right away?

Below are my musical attempts for you laughing pleasure. :P
