Painting refreshes my soul

This weekend I worked on two new watercolor paintings and on a mixed media piece. It had been many weeks since I last picked up a paint brush to work on a personal piece of artwork. I can't believe how much better I feel today. While one of the paintings did not turn out well and the mixed media piece is still unfinished, it was really freeing to get in the zone. My husband was wonderful in leaving me alone to do my thing. And even the dogs were quiet as they listened to my smooth jazz music playing while I painted.

I really must get better at taking time for my art. Not just for the restorative value but also because it takes my mind a long time just to unwind, slow down and focus when I haven't practiced my art in a while. And because I forget what works and how to make a good painting, even though I know I know how to do it. The old adage, "practice makes perfect" is so true.

Here is the finished painting.

I titled it "A Weed is But a Flower Unloved".
