Know the Person

It's about opening up
not just performing
You must know the person

Being in the now
It's a different culture
You must know the person

Finding the right person
Someone who can connect
You must know the person

Show not tell
if you want people to remember
You must know the person

We are all kids inside
Let yourself go
You must know the person

Build the relationships
What's next
You must know the person

Both poems were inspired at lectures attended this week and last. The first poem contains words from a demonstration by artist and author, Anne Abgott at the Jacksonville Watercolor Society, as well as words heard at a demonstration by artist Randy Pitts at the Art Guild of Orange Park. The second came from words heard in a program sponsored by the AgeWell Institute which featured geriatrician Dr. Bill Thomas and Samite Mulondo, founder of Musicians for World Harmony. They were presenting the power of music on the mind, particularly its effects on those suffering from dementia. Dr. Thomas is clearly a champion for the arts in medicine and whole person care.
