Ethos is at the heart of every person. For me it means to
love and honor the human spirit in each of us. Adding this to the values of a
good art in medicine practitioner brings a sense of beauty and grace to the
profession. By demanding the very best of myself, I am able to give my best
self to others.
We are called to see the person first, the one behind the
mask, that spirit that is hurting. By doing so, we are able to bring comfort
and inspiration to others in ways that may aid them in their healing processes.
We must earn their trust, make them comfortable and loved
and cared for. It is in the little details of everyday life that we find
balance for ourselves so that we can help others find it in theirs. By
listening to concerns of others, and ourselves, we find another way of seeing
and another way of being present.
Arts in Medicine is a different kind of service that is
absolutely worth the effort as it provides healing comfort to both the body and
the soul. And for the practitioner an opportunity to discover one’s true
purpose.
